Welcome to my first blog post! My name is Makena and I am the founder of Brass Elephant Interiors, a Fort Collins based interior design studio. I’ll start with an introduction followed by why I started Brass Elephant Interiors and who I am as an Interior Designer.

About Me
When I was just 4 years old I... just kidding. I won't go that far back. I was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. Colorado being one of my favorite states in the US, I didn't want to leave but I wanted a bit of a change. I moved up to Fort Collins where I bid farewell to the beloved CU Buffalos (Sorry Ralphie) and became a CSU Ram. After four years up north and receiving my Bachelors of Science in Interior Architecture and Design with a Minor in Construction Management, I decided to call Fort Collins my home. I have had several years of experience working in high-end, residential interior design and remodels and have worked as an Architectural Associate, Interior Designer, and Project Manager. I really enjoyed being a lead designer and working with contractors and architects who also appreciate attention to detail. As an interior designer, I am in a unique position to help people feel comfortable in their homes, express themselves, and create a healing atmosphere. We spend so much time indoors, more now than ever, so it’s important to have a space that feels like home.
The Beginning of Brass Elephant Interiors
I started Brass Elephant Interiors with the intention of offering a thoughtful and meaningful design experience. Knowing the design process can be overwhelming and expensive, I have created several different service options to meet your design needs, budget, and unique style preferences. My job is not to design in one specific style, but to help your style shine. Over the years, I have designed spaces from traditional to ultra modern. Yes, the Instagram aesthetic is beautiful, but I don't believe in designing for a single photograph. We can always take a final staged photo once your project is done and post it to Instagram to show off your new space. That photo can be framed and displayed in your built-in custom bookcase that shows off all of your knickknacks, art and sculptures you’ve collected from your travels. Or books you’ve read, and the little art deco box of trinkets your child gave you over the holidays. Those are the items I want to design around in your space.
If you can relate, then let's chat! I want to get to know you. What makes you happy, and what your biggest interior design dreams are. I can't promise I can make them all come true but I do promise I will try my best to. I enjoy being a part of your design journey.
The point is, my approach to design is displaying your brass elephant. Meaning, items that make you happy, bring joyful memories when you walk by them and see them at a glance, and make you feel at home. I'm not saying let's fill your home with clutter, unless that's your thing. I'm saying let’s create a meaningful design that allows space for the things that make your house feel like home.
What to Expect
Now that you know a little about me and what Brass Elephant Interiors is about, I'll tell you what you can expect from this virtual "design library". Since I am new to this whole blogging business, I don't want to over commit and promise you a post everyday. What you will see are recent projects, interior design inspiration, my opinion on current and past trends, and any ideas I have that might inspire you on your design journey. There might be more, but for now enjoy some photos I took of one of my recent bathroom remodels.
